When you look for information regarding purifying water, you are usually told that there are 4 methods that work.

Boiling. This can be difficult or impossible if you don't have the equipment or fuel. However, if you have these items, it is definitely effective. Boil for at least 1 minute at sea level. Longer as altitude increases.
Iodine. Iodine will kill pathogens in water to a certain degree but has side effects for some people.
Chlorine (Bleach). Chlorine (sodium hypochlorite) is used for water treatment because it is cheap. It is not 100% effective as it doesn't kill the Cyrptosporidium pathogen, it doesn't work effectively in cold water and it's limited effectiveness is further reduced as the ph (alkalinity) of the water increases. It does not work well in water that is not completely clear. On top of all that, it combines with elements in the water to make substances that have been proven to be carcinogenic. Unfortunately, it is used in municipal water supplies in Australia. Why? Because it is cheap. This is why the Chryptosporidium outbreak was able to occur in Sydney some years ago.

CHLORINE DIOXIDE.

Chlorine dioxide, derived from ordinary salt, is the active component of EASY MMS WATER PURIFICATION FLUID. It is a gas created by activating the purification fluid.

Twenty seconds after you mix the Activator and the Purification fluid, the creation of Chlorine Dioxide gas begins. For this reason, you need to mix it with the water to be purified as soon as possible after twenty seconds has passed.

CHLORINE DIOXIDE will kill all the bacteria and viruses in the water, whether it is cold, high PH or not completely clear. It will not combine with any other substances in the water.

It only takes one drop to sterilize four litres of water, but is so safe that one drop in 50mL will not harm you.

CHLORINE DIOXIDE IS NOT CHLORINE. It has the smell of chlorine as do other substances made from salt, but is completely different to Chlorine, which is Sodium Hypochlorite.

CDS. Is = Chlorine Dioxide Solution. In this fluid, the chlorine dioxide gas is trapped in the fluid so long as you keep it below 11 degrees C.

It doesn't matter if the bottle gets warmer than that, so long as you don't open it while it's warm. If you do, some of the gas will escape because it has come out of the water and eventually the solution will become ineffective. Keep it in the fridge.
